Simon Clements


Born 1956 in Felixstowe, Suffolk, first represented Suffolk Minor Counties in 1974. Studied Law at Oxford University, played 29 First Class matches for Oxford, captaining in 1979. Had spells with Kent 2nd XI before University and Hampshire 2nd XI after. Played for Suffolk until 1998, scoring 9,219 runs in the Minor Counties Championship. Played 18 List A one day matches, for Combined Universities and the Minor Counties in the Benson and Hedges Cup and for Suffolk in the Gillette Cup and NatWest Trophy. Toured South Africa in 1974 with Crocodiles public schools side including David Gower, Paul Downton and Chris Cowdrey and in 1981 with Jazzhats (Combined Oxford and Cambridge University side). Toured Australia in 1978/9 with Combined Oxford and Cambridge Universities with Derek Pringle, Paul Parker, Peter Roebuck, Ian Grieg – unbeaten on that tour – looking forward to repeating! Scored 111* for MCC at Lords. Still working as a Chartered Financial Planner, married to Elaine with two sons and a daughter-in-law from Melbourne so there may be mixed loyalties!
